Terrill Haigler aka Ya Fav Trashman will be hosting a 5k Earth Day Trash Walk on April 23, 2022 from 8am-Noon. To his knowledge this is the first of its kind. He and the participants will walk a 5K route in the Kensington section of the city and pick up trash at the same time. He will also be giving out 250 hot meals to the homeless during the walk. This walk is to help raise awareness around environmental justice in brown and black communities. That is why Haigler is proud to announce that for every bag of trash collected up to 1000 bags PHS (Pennsylvania Horticultural Society) had pledged to plant a tree in a black and brown neighborhood over the next 5 years. His goal is to have 2000 people sign up and complete the walk. He plans to have a Dj on site, personal trainer to warm everyone up and about 10 information tables for the community. Tables ranging from voter registration from commissioner Omar Sabirs office to first time home ownership information. Haigler is also hosting fundraisers for the walk. April 14 he is having a Taco and Tequila at Mission Taqueria and April 20 selling lunch platters at Bleu Soul in Germantown from 1pm-8pm Haigler will be working the cash register at Blue Soul. Participants have to register for the walk by Friday April 22. The fee is $25. Thanks to the large number of sponsors Haigler was able to keep the fee low. Some of the sponsors include; Subaru, Garbo Grabber, University of Penn, Pennsylvania Ballet, Temple School of Engineering, Solo Realty, Friends Select School, Arch Street Preschool, AEcom, Double Trellis, Keystone First, Onedeeds and First Shell Demo and Junk Removal. About Ya Fav Trashman
When things got messy in 2020, we felt the residue most in our communities. While we had our community servants to step up and keep up safe, somewhere along the way we forgot to take care of them. That’s why our founder, Philly Community Servant Terrill Haigler started Ya Fav Trashman (YFT). As a sanitation worker, Terrill has experienced what happens when we forget to support those who take care of our communities. Now, it has become his mission to bring back a collective sense of accountability for what happens in our neighborhoods. While the pandemic revealed our vulnerabilities, some of the issues we’re facing already existed. YFT is here to bring attention to the work that maintains life around our homes. As long as we are around, you know that someone is there to push you, your neighbors and community further into a future we can all take pride in. As we know, when it comes to finding a sustainable way of keeping our communities safe, it takes all of us.
