Ya Fav Trashman collaborates with Jeff Brown and OneDeeds to collect 2,000 gloves for Philadelphia sanitation workers

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Terrill Haigler also known as Ya Fav Trashman (YFT) is collaborating with Jeff Brown, CEO of Browns ShopRite, to purchase 2,000 puncture-proof gloves for sanitation workers using the product-based donation platform, Onedeeds.com. The grey, cut, and needle puncture-resistant gloves cost $47.85 a pair. These gloves will keep sanitation workers safe from getting poked by needles and nails as they collect hazardous waste to keep the city clean. Since resigning in February 2021, Haigler continues to get text messages and DMs from former co-workers about the need for better gloves. At least five workers have been poked by needles this year. Once the goal of 2,000 gloves is reached, Haigler will distribute the gloves to all six sanitation centers so that each sanitation worker has a new pair of gloves.

Haigler asked Jeff Brown to rally around the campaign, and he agreed. Brown said, “Terrill has educated me on the challenges of our Philly sanitation workers and how they get punctures and cuts from needles and broken glass while handling the trash. I feel it is critical that we help our sanitation workers stay safe by getting them all puncture-proof gloves. I am also excited to work with YaFavTrashman on this effort and look forward to what we can accomplish together by joining forces.”

When a sanitation worker is poked with a needle they have to immediately go to urgent care. These workers receive several medicines to prevent the spread of diseases they may have contracted from the needle. Urgent care sends the unfortunate victim home to take up to eight pills daily for months to further prevent possible sickness.

Haigler said, “I chose OneDeeds because it was started by two friends who had the vision to make the world a better place ‘one good deed at a time.’ They created the platform to allow anyone with a cause the ability to request any item while also making it a place to build relationships. The mission of YFT and Onedeeds beautifully align. With this campaign, residents will be able to purchase the gloves from Amazon, and they will be delivered right to me so that I can get the gloves to the workers quicker than ever before.”
