Wilted Flowers, Our Women Deserve Better…

Reading Time: 2 minutes

There are 3.905 billion women in the world, 167.5 million women in the U.S., 6.526 million women in Pennsylvania, and 832,685 women in Philadelphia. The widespread presence of women is impactful and influential. They are the backbone of so many pivotal pillars of our society. And yet, women are often abused, discriminated against, cheated on, passed over, and taken for granted on a daily basis because of their gender.

For instance, ‘At the current rate of progress, it will take another 108 years to reach gender parity, according to the World Economic Forum’s most recent Global Gender Gap.’ – World Economic Forum ‘Women make up nearly half the workforce but continue to earn significantly less than men who do the same jobs. That nearly 20% wage gap has barely budged in years. The Institute for Women’s Policy Research found that women earn less than men in nearly every single occupation where there’s enough data to calculate a gender ratio.’ – Pan Macmillan ‘Over 380 million women and girls are living in extreme poverty.

One woman or girl is killed by someone in her own family every 11 minutes.

130 million girls remain out of school worldwide. Almost 1 in 3 women experienced food insecurity in 2021.’ – Global Citizen Right Lawyers, a divorce and custody law firm, reported that divorced women are more adversely affected by divorce than men. Women who’ve been divorced for the first time experience a 24% increased chance of a heart attack. ‘Women who have been divorced twice ormore see an increase in their risk of heart attack by 77%!’ Sadly, divorce for women is literally a heartbreakingexperience. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) reports that a third of women in the U.S. will experience some form of physical abuse. And the inflicted abuse will most likely come from someone the women have close intimate familiarity with. NCADV also reports that 1 in 5 women in the United States have experienced being raped in their lifetime, and ‘Almost half of female (46.7%) and male (44.9%) victims of rape in the United States were raped by an acquaintance.’
