What’s on Your Mind?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Lord, Bless Us And Give Us A Positive Way Of Thinking. Amen.

The late Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, the former President of Morehouse College, coined a famous phrase: “A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Waste.” This is the slogan used by The United Negro College Fund and many a speaker because it speaks a severe truth that all of God’s creation must realize. After the heart, your brain and mind are the body’s most essential parts. The brain must function if we are to function.

Now, there are three types of minds.

First, there are small minds. Small-minded people only discuss other people’s affairs. They gossip about the affairs of other people. They have no life of their own. A small mind equals a small life. “No man who thinks of catching mice will ever catch a lion.”

Second, there are average minds. Average-minded people only discuss events. They are the folk like a walking newspaper who can tell what’s happening in and around town. They are just busy following the events of the world with no productive time of their own. An average mind equals an average life. “Beware of what you set your mind on for that you will surely become.” (Emerson)

Third, there are great minds. Great-minded people discuss ideas and the ways of God. They are the people who are the creators and inventors of the world. They are always thinking of ways to make this a better world in which to live. They are the folk who have faith and see beyond their circumstances, knowing God will work things out. They understand that the battle is not theirs but The Lords. They know that God is working that negative situation into a positive situation for their good. A great mind equals a great life. “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7)
