I have typed and erased several times because of the tears streaming down my face. I am heartbroken. As the world says RIP to Kangol Kid, a Hip Hop legend, I say, I miss you to one of my dearest friends, Kangol Kid. Writing this isn’t easy, but Kangol Kid deserves celebration for his extraordinary life. I met Kangol back in the late ’90s at Lady B’s birthday party at Club Gotham. From that day forward, we have been family. Kangol Kid can sing, rap, and dance in just one show. He would also light up the room with his amazingly flawless smile. The last words I heard from Kangol were I love you and gave me the biggest hug.
Kangol was diagnosed with cancer in February 2021 and passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Yvette Money, Monica, and I were planning a visit to the hospital that day, but before we could make it, we got the unbelievably sad news of his passing. Would you please continue to extend prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Shaun Shiller Fequiere, aka Kangol Kid. Kangol is survived by his sons, T.Shuan, A.J., and Giovanni, wife Tajiri Swindell, four daughters, Felicity, Tatiana, Jasmine, and Amancia.
