“Another important ingredient that must emerge from education is a vision that is shared by the collective. This collective vision might be a nation, an ethnic group, or a community. Essentially it requires that a group with a common destiny and common historical connection must see themselves as rising above any limitations and achieve the ascendancy of their group consistent with the highest aspirations of the rest of humanity. The vision must assure that all members share a commitment. First of all to their survival and secondly to their progress.” Know Thyself Naim Akbar page 13.
The indiscriminate violence ravaging and plaguing this nation is highly destructive to the health, well-being, and order of society. Senseless killings, fratricide, mass shootings, and random aggression have become the norm in America. Thus far, in 2022, there have been over 246 mass shootings (four or more people involved, shot, injured, or killed), and the homicide rate is escalating even higher than in 2021. This is an alarming trend that seems to be on the upswing with no remedy or solution in sight.
How did we get to this point? Many say the domestic violence we are experiencing is merely a reflection of the values, consciousness, and traditions of this nation, a nation conceived in violence against the indigenous people of this hemisphere. The United States, as a sovereign nation, has been at war for ninety-three percent of its entire existence!
