The Philly Violence Prevention Summit took place Friday, November 5, 2021, hosted by PA (D) State Senator Sharif Street. The event took place in State Rep. Danilo Burgo’s legislative district at Esperanza.
Senator Sharif Street is the Democratic Chair of the newly formed Senate Crime Prevention Caucus. “This caucus was formed after a number of my colleagues reached out to me, after on July 4th my wife’s nephew Salahudin (Lala) was killed in Philadelphia. Several of my colleagues came to me and asked me, what can we do to address the violence? I was reminded by a youth who said it wasn’t our job to be on the street, grabbing criminals and making arrests. This young person said, however, that there was something that lawmakers could do. He said it’s our job to fix the system that keeps creating the shooters.”
