I first met General Khalid in Washington D.C., during the summer of 1994. He and his brother Steve Cokley had just finished giving a powerful lecture on how to create and maintain Black power. After hearing my brief comments toward the end of the program, Khalid wanted to have a few words with me, and our alliance started right from that point.
The next time I actually spent time with Khalid was in 1996 when I picked him up from the airport. Khalid was to speak at the Annual Black College convention hosted by Cheyney University.
After the program, our ride through the Black Communities in Philadelphia before eventually going back to the airport was an incredibly profound lesson from Master Teacher to a student.
Later in 1996, I was privileged to spend a significant amount of time with Muhammad when my organization United for Success (U.F.S.), sponsored a powerful program in West Philadelphia. Khalid spoke intensely on Survival, Leadership, and Liberation in the Black community. Like the majority of General Khalid’s lectures… .it was standing room only. The gymnasium at the West Philadelphia YMCA was packed with Black Philadelphia residents from all walks of life.
