Think about back to school–Now

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Philadelphia Public School District starts classes for all PreK-12 students Monday, August 29, 2022.

I know, I know, some of you parents are thinking, “Thank God, I have a break from taking my child to school every day” or “I’m just so glad it’s summer. My kids are in camp or vacationing with family. I’m free.”

The reality is when you have school-age children some things should be done before the end of the school year to get them registered at a new school, or for the very young preparing to attend school for he first time as kindergardeners.

A parent’s job is never done. So let’s take a look at the City of Philadelphia’s website and what instructions they’re sharing for parents with children 5, 6 years old, or older who may have graduated from elementary school and now need to be enrolled in a middle school.

Philadelphia students will return to full-time in-person learning this fall.

Here are (10) tips on keeping your child and family safe and healthy as you plan for the school year.

Book your child’s vaccination appointment. Check with your child’s pediatrician to ensure they are up to date on their shots.

COVID-19 vaccines are available to children 12 and older. Check with your child’s pediatrician or walk in at virtually any local health center, vaccine clinic, or pharmacy. Learn about safety measures at your child’s school. Does your child attend a School District of Philadelphia (SDP) school? Before your child heads back to class, read the latest safety measures on SDP’s school directory. Practice mask-wearing with your younger children, just in case…

Masks remain an important tool in slowing the spread of the virus, and everyone must wear a mask in School District buildings. Plan for the flu season. Talk to your child about their mental health and find outside support if you feel help is needed.
