Lord, We Thank You Because You Are The Same To Us And For Us Each And Every Day. Amen.
Day. Amen.
There are two very familiar songs I have loved most of, if not all, of my life. They both speak the truth about change. I’m sure you know them. The first is by Sam Cooke, entitled; “A Change Is Gonna Come.”
It says: “I was born by the river in a little tent; oh, and just like the river, I’ve been running ever since. It’s been a long, a long time coming, But I know a change is gonna come; oh yes, it will. It’s been too hard living, but I’m afraid to die cause I don’t know what’s up there beyond the sky. It’s been a long, a long time coming, but I know a change is gonna come; oh yes, it will. I go to the movie, and I go downtown. Somebody keeps telling me don’t hang around. It’s been a long time coming, but I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will. Then I go to my brother, and I say, “Brother, help me please.” But he winds up knockin’ me back down on my knees. There have been times when I thought I couldn’t last for long. But now I think I’m able to carry on. It’s been a long time coming, but I know a change gonna come, oh yes, it will.”
The second one was written by Quincy Jones and sung by George Benson. Its poetic words say:
“Everything must change. Nothing stays the same. Everyone must change. No one stays the same. The young become the old, and mysteries do unfold, ’cause that’s the way of time. Nothing and no one goes unchanged. There are not many things in life you can be sure of, except rain comes from the clouds, the Sun lights up the sky, and hummingbirds do fly. Winter turns to spring. A wounded heart will heal, but never much too soon. Yes, everything must change. The young become the old, and mysteries unfold cause that’s the way of time. Nothing and no one goes unchanged. There are not many things in life you can be sure of, except rain comes from the clouds, Sun lights up the sky, and butterflies fly.”
