Lord, We Thank You Because You Are The Same To Us And For Us, Each And every day. Amen.
There are two very familiar songs I have loved most of, if not–all, my life. They both speak the truth about change. I’m sure you know them. The first one is by Sam Cooke, entitled;
“A Change Is Gonna Come”
It says: “I was born by the river in a little tent;
Oh, and just like the river, I’ve been running ever since.
It’s been a long, long time coming,
But I know a change is gonna come; oh yes, it will.
It’s been too hard living, but I’m afraid to die
Cause I don’t know what’s up there beyond the sky.
It’s been a long, a long time coming, but I know a change gonna come; Oh yes, it will. I go to the movie, and I go downtown.
Somebody keeps telling me don’t hang around.
It’s been a long, long time coming, but I know a change gonna come,
Oh yes, it will.
Then I go to my brother, and I say, “Brother, help me please.”
But he winds up knockin’ me back down on my knees.
There have been times when I thought I couldn’t last for long.
But now I think I’m able to carry on.
It’s been a long, a long time coming, but I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will.”
The second one was written by Quincy Jones and sung by George Benson. Its poetic words say:
“Everything must change. Nothing stays the same.
Everyone must change. No one stays the same.
The young become the old, and mysteries do unfold, ’cause that’s the way of time.
