“Let’s come to the realization that unless we reconnect with our roots, we shall forever be like a ship with all sails but no anchor. Let’s learn from what we have been through. Let’s learn from our past mistakes and experiences. The divisions that have been imposed upon us through “the rule of divide and conquer,” which led to the legacy of slavery and the legacy of colonization, are still alive and well among us. They Must Die!

The honor is to have a serious conversation with the image in the mirror. The decision of decolonizing our- selves and shading the legacy of slavery is on us. Ask yourselves this simple but deep question: Am I colnized?” “Am I suffering from the legacy of slavery?” If the answer is yes, please take a moment and begin that journey of undoing the scourge that was imposed upon us during slavery as well as during the colonization as dictated by the Berlin Conference of 1883.”

Brothers and sisters, the importance and relevance of our Declaration must be embraced and encouraged to read. Marcus Garvey and the delegates of the first UNIA-ACL International Convention (1920) drafted and accepted this living and breathing document to help us navigate and unify, not only here in the U.S. and Africa but in the Caribbean and South America. Fortunately for us, a significant part of the UNIA-ACL history and legacy is right here in Philadelphia. The UNIA-ACL International Headquarters and home of Division #121 stands tall at 1609-11 Cecil B. Moore Ave. We encourage all Black Philadelphians to take out a membership and roll up their sleeves!
