Most of us are familiar with the quote, “Actions speak louder than words, but do you really believe that?
Hmmm? If someone were to examine your actions, how would they be defined? What do your actions say about you? I have noticed, some people know what to say to please other people, but with some people what they say is just talk. We talk and talk and talk, but only a small portion of the population DO.
The Bible says, “For many are called but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:14) We must learn how to become doers of your word! Doers are attractive! They say, “When you see a good fight get in it.” So, I decided to partner with the Peacekeepers of Wilmington, Delaware, to show our people some love by giving out water, fruit, and vegetables. We have to learn different ways to be proactive instead of being reactive, and this according to Brother Terry of the Peacekeepers, “Is going to be a collective effort”.
Currently, Brother Terry is the President of the Peacekeepers in Wilmington, Delaware, but the Peacekeepers is an International Organizations with many chapters in the major cities. Brother Terry joined the movement in 2012, and as of today, there are about 12-15 active members. I asked Brother Terry about some of the challenges the group has faced, and he replied, “I have been in a struggle partnering with the Churches and School Board.” However, “In 2019, the School Board began to let us in, but there is still a struggle to spread the word about what we do.”
I spoke with Brother Jerry, who is the Secretary of the Peacekeepers. Brother Jerry has been a member since 2012 and was strongly encouraged to join by Brother Reese and a Priest. Some of his functions are handling all correspondence, recommendations, contact information, and their Facebook page. They have met with the Police Chief and look to reduce gun violence in 2021.
When I asked, what are some of the problems people are dealing with, he said, “Social Media and what is called lizard brain.” According to Oxford Languages, lizard brain is the part of the brain to which primitive, non-rational, or self-interested behavior is attributed. Also, Brother Jerry stated that people experiencing the trauma of homicide should get free mental services.
Next, I spoke with Brother Bilal, who has been a member since 2009. Brother Bilal lost a niece in 2002, hosts of friends through the years, and his grandson in 2015 to gun violence. I asked Brother Bilal, what made you get involved? He replied, “I want it to stop! I want the murdering of my black brothers and black sisters to stop.” Brother Bilal said, “We suffer from self-hatred, and it will take love to get us out of this.” I asked him what has been some of the challenges the group has faced? He replied, “Two major ones are politics and coming together with other organizations.”
If you look at the 10(ten) goals of the Peacekeepers on their Facebook page, they are:
A Spiritual Awakening (Based on an unwavering belief in God, and respect and love for Him”
Righteousness and Personal Moral Responsibility (A moral transformation of society)

Drug Counseling, Prevention Stamping out the plague of drug addiction
Mentoring Programs
In closing, this is the kind of organization that I can and will help. Please find an organization to help, a church to help, a mosque to help, a temple to help, or an individual to help so that our community will become better. We were taught, “If we take one step, God would take two,” so let us get to stepping because we were promised victory over Satan. It is going to take God-fearing men and women to change the reality in our communities. Aren’t you tired of the senseless murders? We must learn to love each other enough that we allow each other to live!
When I look at the goals of the Peacekeepers, I see we have a lot of common ideas, and it is absolutely necessary that we strive to unify with like-minded people. Who wants their communities to be better? We need to find a way to exercise our faith and feed God’s (Allah’s) flock. The feeding of the flock is not just physical food, although it could be that, going even deeper on the mental and spiritual level. The Bible says, “But He answered and said, ‘It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:4) So when the Bible talks about feeding my sheep, prayerfully our actions will show that we have grown to understand.
