The Bible says, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:24-25)
Once again, the Peacekeepers of Wilmington and SWAP Inc. (Socializing With A Purpose) teamed up to serve people in the 5th and Madison Street area by giving out fruits, vegetables, and gallons of water. We must show love and that we care every day! The community needs to see people working together despite their trivial differences. The goal is Peace! We must be Peacekeepers. One way you do that is by having real conversations because people know when you are lying. They say, “Game recognizes game,” but life is not a joke, and no one should play with people’s emotions.
People should be respected, and they will give respect in return when approached correctly. The response from the community was very positive, and I thank everyone for demonstrating what serving looks like. I look forward to our next event giving out book bags with school supplies inside them in August, near the Riverside community. The Bible says, “Therefore, we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.” (3 John 1:8) How are you helping to maintain the peace in our community? What are you doing to help keep your community clean?
There is a connection between how our communities look and the behaviors of the different individuals in the community. When you have vacant and abandoned buildings, empty lots, and trash everywhere, these eyesores affect how the members conduct themselves. Abandoned buildings can be a place where people trespass oftentimes engaging in breaking another law. What happened to the block captains? What happened to cleaning up in front of your property? What happened to helping the elderly people on your block clean in front of their property? What is the process for getting abandoned buildings torn down? What is the process for getting the vacated lots cleaned? What is the process for getting the grass cut on vacated lots? How do you get a no-dumping sign installed?
A part of keeping the peace is eliminating the eyesores in the community and making sure we contact the right people to address our particular issue. The Bible says, “For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.” (1 Corinthians 3:9)
We need to participate in any activity that would improve our communities and help keep the peace. Respecting ourselves and one another is one way that we show each other the feelings are mutual. When a person sees that you are respectful, it is unlikely that they would respond disrespectfully. They say, “You kill them with kindness!” Minister Farrakhan has said, “He has to love you more than you hate yourself,” and only a person that hates themselves refuses to reflect their creator.
The Bible says, “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:58) No matter what, let your light shine, stand for the truth, stand on the word of God (Allah), and always be willing to be the one for which God (Allah) would spare the city. Be that one! Be a peacekeeper! If God (Allah) is your father, be a “chip off the old block.” God (Allah) is peace, and His love is wrapped up in the truth!
