How do you look at money? What is the first thing you do when you get money? Do you save a percentage of the money that you have received? Do you pay some charity or tithes and offerings? When you hear the word money, what is the first thing that comes to your mind and why? We need to understand how to manage our money better through saving so that we will only have good debt and then work on having our money bring us a return. The Bible says, “Why should fools have money in hand to buy wisdom, when they are not able to understand it?” (Proverbs 17:16 – New International Version)
One thing I will recommend is to get several books to help you in the areas where you are weak in finance and consult other sources that you deem helpful to accomplish your personal goals. I have had two books for years and they have helped me in many ways. One is Save! America by Tom Petro and Kris Messner, the other is No More Debt! by Dr. Creflo A. Dollar Jr., however, you can choose the books best for you. On July 19, 2021, I purchased How Money Works by DK (Dorling Kindersley Limited). I am looking forward to reading it especially the pages on inflation.
They say, “Knowledge is Power,” but if we do not apply certain knowledge, we just have information that could be categorized as a theory because we cannot bear witness yet. We need to follow through more and not be afraid of making a mistake. Sometimes, that is how you learn and know there were others that have made mistakes as well, but as long as we have life, that mistake can be corrected. The Bible says, “Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13) We can do this!
They say, “if you knock me off the chair, shame on you, but if you knock me off the chair the second time then shame on me.” Why? Why are we responsible for the actions of someone the second time? We must not only learn our mistakes but also learn from the mistakes of others because if we were alert and inform, certain things will not happen.
Most of the time, we would make different decisions if we had more information. Minister Farrakhan says, “He who gives you the diameter of your knowledge prescribes the circumference of your activity.” (March 10, 2012). We must embrace general order number one, “To take charge of this post and all temple property in view” because and until we see the view in our lives, we will not strive to improve. We must be willing to learn and learning about money will change our condition for the better.
The Bible says, “A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. He who gathers in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame.” (Proverbs 10:4-5).
We have this prayer in the Nation of Islam given to us by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad in the book Message To The Blackman that states, “O Allah! I seek Thy refuge from anxiety and grief and I seek Thy refuge from lack of strength and laziness and I seek Thy refuge from cowardice and niggardliness and I seek Thy refuge from being overpowered by debt and the oppression of men. O, Allah! Suffice Thou me with what is lawful to keep me away from what is prohibited and with Thy grace make me free of want of what is beside Thee.”
Please stay safe and seek to learn so our community will improve!
