The State of Our City, Part I

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As a resident, I give Mayor Kirkland and his team extremely high marks for the evidenced-based presentation of the State of the City address. However, as a resident, I couldn’t help but wonder if, had this narrative been presented throughout the year…say quarterly, if it would have shut down those naysayers and those who would hold us back as a city. I had the privilege of covering the vast majority of the Kirkland administration’s achievements, so I think it would be safe to say quarterly in-person sessions like this one would’ve better served the city. Nevertheless, this State of the City was exceptionally positive and absolutely fact-based.

Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland stood at the lectern inside the newly constructed Access Center, located at 7th and Booth Streets in Chester, to share with the city residents the successful endeavors of their city government and its partners. The venue, in which residents gathered to hear and view the State of the City address, was definitive evidence of one of the administration’s many successes. The event was held in Phase 1 of the Access Center. Construction of the remainder of the Center is still under construction. Kirkland opened with the statement, ”Chester is on the move!” Backing up his address–visuals of the administration’s successes were projected onto a screen for attendees to view.

Thank you to Sister Kathy and Sister Maggie for hosting the State of the City. We look forward to seeing the completion of the Access Center, which will include some amenities such as a food pantry, computer lab, art therapy, after-school programs, washer and dryer facilities, showers, job searches, and health screenings. Thank you to the Sergeant family for the generous donations and support in getting this center built.
