The SCOOP is Celebrating Black Women in Business

Reading Time: 2 minutes

People who are faithful SCOOP USA Media Newspaper readers already know that October has been designated National Small Business Month for women business owners. How exciting.

We still don’t hear enough about success stories for women in business.

As for me, I operated a video production and PR business for about 25 years on a part-time basis, and I loved it.

I guess I couldn’t help but go into business because it’s in my blood. I no longer operate my old business; however, I learned so much over the years I was doing my thing.

Now I get to enjoy observing Sherri Darden, Owner and Publisher of the SCOOP USA Media Newspaper, as she rises in the world of business. Since she purchased the SCOOP from the founder of the newspaper, five years ago, she has grown the paper into a brand. There’s the original SCOOP Newspaper which is published weekly. There’s the online SCOOP, which is published weekly. We have a radio program on WWDB called ‘The Inside Scoop,’ which is broadcast from 6:00 pm 7:00 pm on Monday evenings; there’s the SCOOP YOUTUBE Channel and let me not leave out SCOOP VIZION.

SCOOP VIZION is a monthly publication for and about African American business owners and the latest hot news for small business owners in particular.

Thanks to the visionary leadership of Sherri Darden, the SCOOP has a wonderful, modern office headquarters in the heart of North Philadelphia at Broad and Girard. Ironically, the office space where SCOOP is located happens to be the very same space where over 35 years ago, Sherri Darden was a teen enrolled in the Dobbins co-op program (a special job program) for seniors. Little did she know all those years ago that some 35 years later, she would be back in that space, overseeing her own media conglomerate.

See what God can do! Won’t He do it? As we begin to wind down on National Women in Small Business Month, Sherri Darden decided she wanted to create a program for women in business where the women could come together and share ideas, get more motivated, network, and break bread together.

I’m using my column today to encourage more women business owners to contact us at the SCOOP, and let us know you will join Sherri Darden and the ladies of the SCOOP at a brunch on Sunday, October 23rd, from 1.30 pm – 4 pm at Bleu Brook, 5610 Lancaster Avenue, Philadelphia.

The event is the SCOOP VIZION Women’s Month brunch. There will be a panel discussion entitled, “Making Your Business Work.” Panelists include Dr. Leslie Grace, Master Mind the Hustle; Michelle Snow, Grow with Snow; Teresa M. Lundy, TML Communications and Mary Arthur, Campaign for Working Families.
