The Primary Election will give strong idea of who will be next Mayor of Philly

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Two weeks. We have exactly two weeks before we see who the Democratic winners from the Tuesday, May 16th primary election will be. Whomever the winners of the Primary Election are will more than likely come out as the winners in the general election in November of 2023. Because Philadelphia is a heavily Democratic-registered city, Democratic candidates who take home a win during primary elections usually take home the win in the general elections. That’s just the way it is in Philly.

For me as a voter, I find this primary election to be heavily weighted with quite a few really intelligent, well-versed candidates that have me creating my own ballot sheet, so I’ll remember who I want to vote for in the various campaigns for Mayor, City Council, Sheriff, Register of Wills, City Controller and Judges. Whew! It’s a lot for a well-seasoned political voter to take in, so I can only imagine how twisted and perhaps even confused some new voters might feel as they prepare to go vote on May 16th.

At the top of the ticket, what’s at stake is who will become the 100th Mayor of the city of Philadelphia. At the time I’m writing this column, three women are leading the Mayoral race, although there are still (10) candidates in the race.
