The Love of Steve Biko, Black Consciousness and Culture (part 1)

Reading Time: < 1 minute

“The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.”

Steve Biko

Since the so-called end of apartheid in 1994, the ANC (African National Congress) has dominated South African politics and is the ruling party in eight–of the nine provinces. But long before the mobilization and organization of the ANC, there have been Black leaders that have paved the way to create a warmer sun for South Africa, even at the expense of sacrificing their own blood. We must always keep those African patriots and freedom fighters within our memory as we continue to forge, redeem and free the land from colonizers who have enjoyed stolen riches beyond belief and consistent generational wealth. In South Africa, seventy-two percent of farm and agricultural land is still owned by white people, and only (4%) is controlled by Black people.

Throughout the centuries, South African warriors have traditionally kept the blood of the enemy on the tip of their spears. African Zulu Kings, such as: Shaka Zulu, Cetshwayo, Senzangakhona Kajama, Sigujanga, Dingane, and Zwelithini, must never be forgotten. Leaders such as Chris Hani, Albert Lutuli, Mariam Makeba, Albertina Sisulu, Winnie Mandela, Salomon Mahlanu, and Robert Sobukwe have all served Mother Africa with honor.
