The Dorothy E. Brunson Foundation honors Scoop’s leader, Sherri Darden

Reading Time: 3 minutes

“I Never Quit” if you had the opportunity to speak to Dorothy Brunson right now and ask her how she was able to go from picking cotton to being the first African American Women in the Nation to own a Radio and TV Station, she would tell you “I Never Quit”

Think about it, the only way to achieve your goals is to push forward; even when you are met with many trials, many failures, never quit! To honor the legacy of Dorothy Brunson, the board members of Dorothy E. Brunson honor men and women who embody the “I Never Quit” stance.

Dorothy Brunson Foundation honors Sherri Horsey Darden

On the third part of our “I Never Quit” Live and Virtual event, held on Mother’s Day Weekend, the board selected our very own, Scoop’s owner and publisher, Sherri Darden. We honor Sherri for her ongoing dedication to building Scoop USA Newspaper. I’ve personally watched and witnessed, firsthand, how Sherri never quit. There were days that she wanted to quit, but instead of stopping, she created and re-imagined.

The world went through one of the most challenging times I’ve ever seen; many businesses closed their doors for good, not Sherri Darden; she kept the community informed and even increased to publishing three papers! My sister/friend, you never cease to amaze me, and I’m honored to be a part of the Scoop family. Congratulations on receiving the Dorothy Brunson “I Never Quit” award; it is truly well deserved.

DEB Foundation Honors Cynda Williams

The Dorothy E. Brunson Foundation also honored Cynda Williams, most known for her role in Spike Lees’ Mo Better Blues; she’s since appeared in numerous film and TV roles, includ- ing BET’s Hidden Blessings, Lifetime’s The Courage To Love, HBO’s Dorothy Dandridge, Oprah Winfrey’s ABC miniseries, The Wedding and PBS’ Tales Of The City. When Hollywood screamed, get naked, and act, Cynda chose another path to success.

Cynda could have quit, but she didn’t; she preserved. Cynda is the host of the PPC Podcast and Radio Show and continues as an Actress in many roles. Congratulations, Cynda, well deserved, my sister/friend.

DEB Foundation Honoree’s

Honoree’s also included: Darryll Brooks, Lonnie Parker, and Senator Pulliam. Each of these fantastic honorees had the opportunity to work or be a part of Dorothy Brunson’s career. They, too, embody Dorothy’s “I Never Quit” spirit.
