PHILADELPHIA— The City announced the return of the Mayor’s Internship Program (MIP). Due to the pandemic, the program closed in March 2020. The MIP is a ten-week paid internship for current college students and recent graduates—including graduate students and professional studies students. This year, graduates of classes 2020, 2021, and 2022 are all eligible to apply. The internship program will take place from June 6 to August 19, 2022.
“We’re thrilled to have undergraduate and graduate students working with the City through MIP again,” said Mayor Jim Kenney. “We look forward to supporting students as they explore what it means to work in city government and engage in this valuable experience.”
The MIP will pay students $15 per hour to learn about and contribute to the City’s work. The program hosts students from around the country every summer. Interns will have the chance to connect with other students in the area, participate in community events, and join activities designed to guide local exploration.
The program consists of three main components: Work assignment: placement in a single department that will allow the intern to work with a City leader or area expert.
Leadership development: weekly programming to develop leadership and decision-making skills.
My Philly Summer program: a program with Campus Philly that engages interns across various sectors in Philadelphia for fun, interesting, and free networking events.
Students can apply to the paid internship program at phila.gov/experiencephila. Applications must include a resume and cover letter, are due by May 2, 2022.
Please note: effective September 1, 2021, the City of Philadelphia requires new employees to present proof of vaccination against COVID-19.
