Reading Time: 2 minutes

SCOOPUSA—August 31. 2021, DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison, Attorney General Josh Shapiro, Congressman Dwight Evans, and Mayor Jim Kenney spoke at the last stop on the Democratic National Convention’s Build Back Better Tour in Philadelphia.
The Belmont Plateau, directly across from the Belmont Mansion, was where the Build Back Better Tour Bus parked for the last session and stop for the entire tour. This last stop in Philadelphia was to reiterate the importance of the focus of the Build Back Better campaign and highlight the improvements made by President Biden’s administration during these first few months of his Presidency. The fact is there is still work that must be done, but Chairman Harrison believes that anything can be accomplished. “The DNC’s ‘Build Back Better’ bus tour will remind people across the country that it is Democrats who are delivering results for the American people,” Harrison stated.
Aside from Harrison’s speech, there were also some important statements given by Attorney General Josh Shapiro. Shapiro spoke about the battles that he had with the Republican Party and Pennsylvania’s importance to America’s democracy. “We stood up to protect the right to vote in 2020. Americans were able to make their voices heard in a free and fair election,” said Attorney General Josh Shapiro. Shapiro strongly believes that the American Rescue Plan has been a success. “This administration has overseen the creation of millions of jobs and put money back into Americans’ pockets.”
Shapiro then introduced Congressman Evans, who gave praise to Mayor Kenney for the work he’s been doing in Philadelphia. Evans expressed how grateful he’s been to be able to support and vote for the American Rescue Plan. As he expressed support, he also detailed the inspiration that political figure John Lewis gave him and expressed the importance and the value of Your Vote and remembering those who fought for the Right to Vote.
Randi Weingarten, President of The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) spoke of how the Build Back Better plan is “Putting resources and policies behind helping Americans thrive.” She stressed how important it is to invest in schools and create better and safe lives for all Americans. Weingarten believes that people recognize that President Biden continues to deliver.
Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairwoman Nancy Patton Mills ended the event with a passionate and heartfelt speech highlighting that Democrats ‘at every entry level’ have been delivering since the start of Biden’s Presidency. She stated, “Despite unprecedented obstruction from Republicans in Congress, President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda is getting checks into pockets and helping small businesses reopen across Pennsylvania. From providing needed relief to local communities to delivering a middle-class tax cut to working parents, the American Rescue Plan has been crucial to Pennsylvania’s recovery.”
The American Rescue Plan is for fair voting rights, more jobs, affordable healthcare, tax cuts for middle-class families, appropriate places for teachers to teach in, and for students to learn. Many of those within Biden’s administration hopes that the American Rescue Plan will continue to help those in need for years to come.
In closing, Mayor Kenney along with others stated that we can’t let our guard down and let “2016” happen all over again. “The reason why these events are held is to make sure Biden and Harris are put back into office around 2024,” says Kenney.
