The Reparations movement can be connected to the leadership of Sister Callie House, who founded “The National Ex-Slave Mutual Relief Bounty and Pension Association” in the early 1870s. Our sister organized a strong Black mass movement demanding reparations from our enemies–from the period of 1870 to 1915. According to the brilliant research of historian Mary Berry, Sister Callie organized and attracted membership through organized mass meetings and dedicated travel agents. The organization successfully developed membership across the south, Oklahoma, Kansas, Indiana, Ohio, and New York.
All the funds that were raised to operate and support the hard work came from annual membership fees of $3.25, 10-cent monthly dues, along with $2.50 that was charged by local affiliates for their charters. The main objective was to organize a collective demand throughout the Black nation, which would force the US to provide the needed and well-deserved pensions for the elderly sisters and brothers formally held in slavery, their surviving spouses, caregivers, and heirs.
