Reading Time: 2 minutes

PHILADELPHIA, May 2023— Pamela Rich-Wheeler, Executive Director, and Nailah Wheeler, Youth Entrepreneurship Facilitator of The Business Center for Entrepreneurship & Social Enterprise (TBC), spoke at the 2023 Global Women’s Professional & Business Exchange Conference and Expo held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) and organized by the US-Ghana Chamber of Commerce.
The Global Women’s Professional & Business Exchange Conference is an annual 2-day conference held in Accra, Ghana. During the conference, women entrepreneurs (from around the world) came together to share their knowledge of their respective industries through a series of workshops and seminars.
Nailah Wheeler spoke on the topic of “Monetizing Your Side Hustle.” She emphasized the value of establishing projections and developing a business plan. Nailah shared, “The conference was empowering because the entrepreneurs came to share information about their specific fields of study; there was so much that I learned listening to all of the panelists, and I look forward to staying in contact with everyone we met.” Wheeler also said, “There were many people in our seminar that were eager to use the financial resources we presented with their youth and young adults. Attaining financial tools for your business can be a very difficult hurdle, so I’m glad that our information was seen as valuable.“
The breakout session was composed of a mix of over 40 nonprofits and for–profits. Additionally, the session included nonprofit resources by presenter Jahzara Agyemang, owner of Jahzara the Educator; she is originally from Philadelphia and now resides in Ghana.
Over 400 adult and young women (and some men) attended the 2-day conference; more than 15 professional organizations were represented, internationally covering business, healthcare, and more.
According to The International Trade Center, Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the Ghanaian economy – they represent about 85% of businesses, largely within the private sector, and contribute about 70% of Ghana’s gross domestic product (GDP).
“Creative Ways of Financing Your Business” was covered by Executive Director of TBC Pamela Rich-Wheeler. During her presentation, she educated current and future entrepreneurs about the specificities of financial funding pertaining to their businesses. Crowdfunding, Investment clubs, Home Equity Loans, Angel Funds, Family and Friends, Pitch Competitions, Partnerships, and Private Equity Funds are some of the many ways to financial grow your business.”
TBC is educating small businesses internationally and continues to do so locally as well. “My hope is to create an exchange between the women-owned businesses (adult and youth) in the United States and Ghana,” said Rich-Wheeler.
TBC will offer their Online Business Planning Class starting October 30, 2023. Also, it will be offered as an online independent study starting this summer and going forward. Here you can also learn about funding for your business and much more.
