Sid Booker, know that name? Sid Booker is the longtime owner of The Stinger La Pointe Lounge and Nightclub at 4600 North Broad Street in North Philadelphia.
Quiet as this news may be to some folk in this town, the truth of the matter is that Sid Booker has helped to make a few politicians, over the years, get elected. Because he is free and unbought and unbossed, Sid Booker, for many years, has had the ability to support whomever he wanted to support, politically speaking, and not have to be concerned if he ruffled anybody’s feathers.
Saturday, October 21, 2023, on a bit of a damp Fall early afternoon, 8th District City Councilwoman Cindy Bass and her colleagues came together and officially unveiled a street sign, now declaring the 4600 block of North Broad Street as Sid Booker Way. Much like the street sign unveiling for former PA State Representative, former Philadelphia City Councilman, and Former Secretary of the PA State Department of Public Welfare John White, Jr., a lot of people found it not robbery on a Saturday afternoon to come and stand outside, (some were seated), and hear remarks from more than 15 or so people as they shared Sid Booker stories.
The person who truly made the event possible was 8th District Philadelphia City Councilwoman Cindy Bass. She said, “This has been a tremendous day for someone more than deserving of the honor of having a street named after him. Sid Booker is someone who has certainly earned this honor. For his many years of supporting other business people and politicians, as well as wanna-be politicians, are legendary. He is most definitely a leader in his own right. Over the years, Sid Booker has also been known for his generosity and his philanthropic efforts in the community. It’s my honor and privilege to be able to recognize someone like Sid Booker and to thank him for all that he’s done over the years.
