Surprise Wedding Proposal at the Royal Ball

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Royal Ball scheduled for April 2020 turned out to be the perfect time for one special couple!

Yolanda Nelson and Lynnette Clement planned The Royal Ball to occur over a year ago. However, two weeks before the event, the world shut down. As they asked their guests if they wanted to cancel their tickets, each guest said no and that they would wait until the world opened again.

On April 25th, the doors of the IATSE Ballroom by Anthony’s Caterers opened to host The Royal Ball. Guests entered the venue and walked the red carpet to be greeted by temperature checkers.

Everyone came dressed in their absolute best ball attire. From the gowns, shoes, and suits, the ball had nothing but beautiful people, wearing masks, of course.

It had been over a year for most of us since we were able to gather like this. The venue ensured that the attendee list was minimum but just enough to have a ball at the ball. After not being able to hit the dance floor in so long, dancing was my main priority.

Along with the dancing, we took photos by Aaron Billups and had a full meal that included beef, seafood, chicken, and vegetables; yup, the food was delicious.

Once everyone stuffed their faces with food and drinks, the music stopped, and wait for it, the surprise.

Guest Antoine Murphy began his speech; everyone gathered around to listen, recording with excitement. Antoine got down on his knee and asked his Queen Porsha to marry him.

The marriage proposal is definitely one of the most important questions of your life, and with a proposal like this, this was one of the most memorable. What a perfect way to celebrate being out of the house, all dressed up— God’s perfect timing.

Thanks so much, everyone for helping to make the Royal Ball a success! Y’all came out smashing the Red Carpet!!!

Congrats to Porsha & Antoine on their Engagement! Thanks, everyone who shared these moments with Us!

Shelly Shell: What was the purpose of the ball?

Yolanda Nelson: The original purpose was to have an elegant royal event …however, due to Covid, it took on a new life. It was an entrance back into society with new energy following CDC rules and expression of the re- silient nature of humanity. We will not allow anything to stop the celebration of the existence of life! We adapt and rise to the level of excellence in every area, and we cele- brate the royalty that is within us all.

Shelly Shell: The Royal Ball was an extreme success. What’s next for you and event co-host Lynnette Clement? Yolanda Nelson: Next is the Elite End of the Summer White Party on August 27th. Tickets will be available soon. To find out more about Yolanda got to YolandaNelson.com.
