STRESSED?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Is workflow overwhelming you?

Relationship drama has you traumatized?

Is schoolwork kicking your butt?

Are personal issues making you anxious?

Welcome to Stresstopia, the multiverse of gross worry!

The feeling of being stressed out is uncomfortable and overwhelming. The Centers for Disease Control says stress is “the result of pressures or tensions and how our body responds to them. Stress can cause–feelings of unease, anxiety, frustration, nervousness, fearfulness or helplessness.”

PsychCentral.com says, “Long-term stress can affect your body and health in surprising ways…”

1. Stress can cause acne

2. Stress may increase how often you get sick

3. Your digestive issues may be related to stress

4. Stress makes it harder to remember things

5. Stress can reduce your life expectancy

6. Some stress can be good

7. Stressful thoughts can make you physically sick

8. Stress can dampen your sex drive

9. Stress can make your allergy symptoms feel worse

10. Stress can affect a woman’s menstrual cycle

For some, stress is just a small blip on their life radar; for others, stress can be debilitating and destructive–like a devastating earthquake. Our level of stress can be mismanaged. Stress can lull you into convincing yourself that matters are worst than they actually are; stressful matters can be overamplified or underestimated.

The seismic level of a person’s stress is subjective. How I perceive a stressful matter may be earth-shattering and apocalyptic, but to another, that same matter may be minor and of no major consequence. It’s unfair to initially dismiss the reality of one’s stressful moments as trivial because the stress is very real and overwhelming for them. So, what are some practical-healthy ways we can cope with managing our stressful episodes?
