Simon “One Punch” Carr Training Kids to [J.A.B.B.] = Juveniles. Against. Bad. Behavior.

Reading Time: 2 minutes

What did you want to be when you were a child is typically my first question in an interview. Even though we were children, some of our favorite childhood activities, games, or toys we played with at times are what we end up doing in life. Even if we aren’t officially in the role, it taught us a lesson, be it discipline or clarity.

I was heavily involved with multiple activities as a child; I played the flute, piano, clerical club, and the reading out loud program at the Northeast Boys and Girls Club. But the one thing I didn’t do as a child was exercise, sports, anything athletic. I had a note to get out of gym class (I didn’t really, but the teachers believed me.) They didn’t care enough to push, and I did a major disservice to myself.

Instead of regret, I’m doing all I can to make up for it.

I’ve known One Punch for over 15 years, and he has always been a major supporter and motivator. He said about a month or so; it’s time to get back to working out, and I did. I embarked on 30 workouts in 30 days, and on my 30th day, I visited One Punch at a local gym in South Philly and watched him train eight-year-old Brondel Van, Jr. This eight-year-old is dedicated to learning–but he wants a reward for his efforts. He did jumping jacks, suicides, and combinations, and he never gave up.

However, when Punch said I was next, I was about to change my mind. One-Punch trains with determination; he doesn’t let you give up; he believes you can do it. Since he believes, it makes you want to keep going. While at the gym, a parent came in to sign her child up to train with One Punch. She wanted to have her son train in boxing as self-defense because he was being bullied in school.
