Last Saturday, True Light Fellowship Church, located in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia (in collaboration with Supreme Gospel Entertainment), organized a Drive ‘n Drop shoe event–aiming to gather 2,500 or more pairs of gently worn or new shoes for distribution in developing countries. The initiative was conceived by Sherri Johnson Roye from Supreme, and a member of True Light Fellowship.
Despite the early morning snowfall, the event managed to collect 400 pairs of gently worn shoes from generous donors. Participants simply, drove up and popped their trunks, and ministry leaders swiftly collected the donations, offering them a complimentary gift from the church.
As of today, True Light Fellowship has amassed over 2,000 pairs of shoes through the weekend donations. First Baptist Church of Oakeola in Glenolden, PA, donated over 300 pairs on Sunday.
There’s still an opportunity for individuals, churches, businesses, or nonprofits to contribute by decluttering their closets and shoe racks. Donations are welcome Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 1 pm, Saturday from 11 am to 2 pm, and Sunday from 8 am to 12 noon.
When questioned about the purpose behind hosting and coordinating such a drive, the team expressed their mission is “Reaching to Rescue and Teaching to Transform.” They believe there’s no better way to extend the love of Christ than by donating items in good condition to those in need across the globe.
True Light Fellowship Church, led by Senior Pastor Dr. Wesley Pinnock and located at 6400 Ardleigh St. in Philadelphia, is committed to serving its community through various ministries and endeavors. Their overarching goal remains to spread a message of hope, peace, and love to all by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
