PHILADELPHIA, PA, March 2021—ScoopUSA Media, a weekly news and media business, which specializes in providing community news and information, is proud to announce national certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Enterprise Center-East, a regional certifying partner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).

Sherri Darden, Owner ScoopUSA Media shared, “It was time, Scoop needed to obtain its WBENC Certification. The media business is dominated by males. There are very few opportunities for female newspaper and media company owners. As one of few female owners, I have found it is difficult to get into many business rooms; yet have a seat at the table–and this was before the Pandemic. As we transition from the Pandemic, many corporations and goverment offices have adopted diversity and inclusion programs that require they do business with minorities companies. In order to be eligible to enter these rooms and be represented, Certification is necessary. So, when the opportunities came, ScoopUSA Media submitted our paperwork and began the processes. It is very important to have verification that your business is exactly what you say it is. In my case, ScoopUSA Media is 100% owned by an African American woman.”

The WBENC standard of certification implemented by the Women’s Business Enterprise Center-East is a meticulous process, including an in-depth review of the business and site inspection. The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by a woman or women.

By including women-owned businesses among their suppliers, corporations and government agencies demonstrate their commitment to fostering diversity and the continued development of their supplier diversity programs.
