PHILADELPHIA — Today, September 2, all schools will dismiss at their normal time and staff will remain in schools until all students have been safely picked up or dismissed. All after-school activities are cancelled, including practice, games, extracurricular activities, and after-school care.
Families should anticipate SEPTA and yellow bus delays throughout the remainder of the day. SEPTA will continue to provide transportation support across all areas of the city, excluding the flood-prone Manayunk and Roxborough areas.
School staff will be communicating directly with families about dismissal for the following schools in flood-prone areas:
- Shawmont Elementary School
- Cook-Wissahickon School
- AMY Northwest
- Thomas Mifflin School
- Academies at Roxborough
- Walter B. Saul High School
The City of Philadelphia shared that road conditions and other impacts from the storm across the City are not expected to improve by tomorrow. Therefore, school buildings will be closed Friday, September 3, and students will engage in 100 percent digital learning and instruction. Instruction will align to schedules here.The District’s Education Center at 440 N. Broad Street will also be closed, and staff are expected to work remotely.
As a final reminder, the School District of Philadelphia will be closed Monday, September 6 in observance of Labor Day and on Tuesday, September 7 in observance of Rosh Hashanah. Schools and District buildings will reopen on Wednesday, September 8.
