A Fundraiser with an “Afternoon of Comedy, Soulful Jazz & A Showcase of Rising Star Artists” will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 2 pm at Our House Culture Center, 6380 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19144. Proceeds will go to developing funds for African-American students pursuing higher education in the field of Performing Arts.
According to Sherry Wilson-Butler, who provides vocal classes to aspiring artists at the Philadelphia Clef Club on Broad and Spruce Streets as well as private vocal coaching for her company, “Vocal Persona!” explains, “My method of vocal education is through a different approach in techniques. I teach from an anatomical and physiological approach. It’s about how the body and mind learn to work cohesively together, which includes the fundamentals of breathing and diction while alternately aspiring students of their vocal ability as vocal artists, beyond traditional teaching.” She added, “It’s really about the DNA and how each individual’s body works to support the voice!”
The afternoon offers a little something for everyone. Gene Norris will open the show with comedy, and Sherry will have jazz enthusiasts out of their seats as she performs a few tunes herself as a special performance with the Aaron Graves Trio. The highlight of the day will be the showcase of talented aspiring artists who will bring their talent to the stage as a rite of passage. “These students have shown their commitment to perfecting their skills as a performer. They are being showcased to family, friends, and the community. After taking lessons and learning different skills, this is their introduction to the next level of performance,” Sherry explained.
