Saturday, July 2nd, the Ridley Park Library celebrated 110 years of the opening of the building and service to the Borough of Ridley Park. Established in 1888 with funds donated by Andrew Carnegie and built in 1912, the Ridley Park Library holds the distinction of being the only Carnegie Library in Delaware County’s Library System of 30 libraries.
Festivities kicked off with opening remarks from Library Board President Keith Eckert; followed by remarks from Keith Lockhart, Ridley Park Mayor Henry (Hank) Eberle, Sara McCullough, Chief of Staff to Senator Tim Kearney, and Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon.
Edith McFall, the library’s long time board president, unexpectedly passed away last year. Her passing left a void, but her presence is continually felt. As part of the library’s 110th anniversary celebration, a new sign was unveiled to go over the entrance to the Children’s Library on Creswell Street. The sign pays homage to McFall’s years of dedication and service, and the children’s library has been renamed the Edith McFall Memorial Children’s Library. Library Board Secretary Mary Clarke conducted the dedication portion of the ceremony. Library Director Katie Wolverton acknowledged the Tiny Art Show Winners.
