On the first Monday of 2022, Chester City Council got right down to business, swearing-in re-elected and newly elected Councilpersons. Kirkland extended wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year to all. Following the invocation by Reverend Camilla Foster of Calvary Baptist Church and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Councilwoman Elizabeth Williams, Judge Dawn Vann swore in Councilwoman Portia West for her fourth term and Stephon Roots for his first term.
West stated, “If not for God, family, the citizens of the City of Chester, the Chester Democratic Committee, Livia Smith and Duane Lee, I wouldn’t be able to do this job. I want to thank my son Anthony Moore, my brother Ronald Mitchell, the Mayor, and other members of the City Council. The people of Chester have put their trust in me for four terms. You all know me, I’m hard working, accessible, and people put their trust in me. I’m ready to go…so I look forward to seeing you on the trail.”
