Anita T. Conner, the co-founder of Paries is the Cure, has done it again. She’s pulled off another very successful Praise Is The Cure event on Saturday, October 5, 2024. It was a day filled with workshops, motivational speakers, encouragement, and a free concert, all of which unfolded on the campus of Mt. Airy COGIC, where Reverend Dr. J. Louis Felton is the senior pastor and Reverend Dr. Bishop Ernest C. Morris is Pastor Emeritus.
I would note that the month of October is known as breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Praise Is The Cure hosts the lead-off event for the month as women in particular, but men too, are encouraged to check their breasts for any sign of lumps, or anything that is odd with your breasts, to ward off breast cancer.
This year was the 19th annual Praise Is The Cure event. One of the most popular activities over the day was the Survivors Pamper Party and Musical Extravaganza. The event also featured a men’s health forum and fellowship, along with free mammograms, body massages, spa treatments, line dancing, food, and fun.
Praise Is The Cure® (PITC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that launched in 2005 as a breast cancer awareness organization to bring valuable information and supportive services to the black community regarding breast cancer and healthy lifestyles. The vision is to ensure that all Black women and men are privy to awareness, intervention, and prevention resources. PITC was founded by Anita Conner, a twenty-year Breast Cancer survivor, along with her daughter Kerri, a 10-year survivor. Praise Is The Cure® is a pillar of hope and inspiration for individuals in the black community battling this disease. We have annually impacted at least 45,000 members of our local and regional communities with our continued outreach and awareness efforts in the community.
Anita T. Conner stated, “We host a variety of events and fundraisers throughout the year to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and initiatives. Your participation and support of our events and fundraisers are highly valued, and your donations help us continue to make a difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer. PITC is supported by our dedicated volunteers, our leadership team, and a host of corporate sponsors, faith-based institutions, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and generous individuals who donate yearly. The rate of Black Women being diagnosed and/or dying early from this disease is rising steadily. THIS MUST STOP! It is imperative for us to encourage each other to seek regular health screenings and talk openly with our families and friends about our health struggles or even minor concerns. Our community historically is one of strong faith.”
With that in mind, Anita added, “PITC wants to instill the belief that No Matter What, we will get through this together. The initial vision of Anita and Kerri has spanned into a year-round campaign that motivates, educates, and encourages Black women to keep living! If you would like to support our mission to provide hope, health, and healing for our community, please visit our “Ways to Help” page. We appreciate all your continued support and look forward to being victorious in the fight against breast cancer.”
Just like Anita T. Conner’s visions for Praise Is The Cure, so was the story of how she founded Anita T. Conner and Associates, a public accounting firm. She had a vision, and she worked until her vision became her reality.
Anita T. Conner & Associates, PC began with a dream. The Firm began with the vision of an enterprising young girl, Anita T. Conner, who was encouraged by her parents, the late George E. and Dorothy M. Thorne, to “Get a good education… get a job… learn and make mistakes on someone else’s payroll… then become an entrepreneur and control your own destiny.”
After graduating from Drexel University with a degree in accounting and working for Price Waterhouse, one of the largest certified public accounting firms in the country, in 1987, Anita left her JOB and opened her certified public accounting firm in the attic of her home.
Anita’s philosophy about business is simple; “If I help others grow…I will grow.” That work ethic (along with hard work) helped the Firm to grow to what it is today.
With her children, Kerri Conner Matchett, CPA, and John K. Conner, Jr, Financial Consultant, working side by side with her, Anita T. Conner & Associates, PC, have grown to become one of the premier Certified Public Accounting and Financial Services Firm in the Greater Philadelphia area.
Perhaps more than many certified public accounting firms, Anita T. Conner & Associates, PC has evolved to meet their client’s personal and business goals by providing comprehensive financial advice.
While Anita’s beloved daughter Kerri Conner Matchett has made her transition, her love for her daughter has only strengthened her and given her the ability to carry on and keep reaching out and working to assist other women and men, too–who are diagnosed with breast cancer. Better yet, Anita is always striving to educate people about getting breast exams for early prevention purposes.
