Pierre grabbing publics attention: Lion King

Reading Time: 3 minutes

This past week, I was hit with COVID. Yes me!! Apparently, there is a new strain, I was told, later after I saw the special notes on my door at the hospital. “Please wear a mask, wash your hands, and stay your distance.” I asked, “Is there something someone needs to tell me?” The nurse responded, “No, that is just a normal precaution.” Lies, lies, lies! Then the doctor came in my room and said, “I guess someone told you that you have COVID.” “No. Never got the memo, I guess,” I said.

The whole thing all started with a cough that could not stop, leading me to the hospital. Tired and coughing, cold and sweaty. I am starting to feel a little better. Ready to pass on some entertainment news to you…

Hats off to Queen Tahj Williams, a 26-year-old African American woman from New Orleans, who is making history as the first artist to design both the Super Bowl logo and its theme art. Her beadwork, which honors the Black Masking tradition, highlights the rich cultural heritage of New Orleans on a global stage.

Williams, a member of the Golden Eagles Tribe, created a hand-beaded design for Super Bowl LIX, inspired by the centuries-old Black Masking tradition. This cultural practice involves intricate beadwork on suits worn during festivals like Mardi Gras, celebrating community and resilience — themes reflected in her Super Bowl artwork.

“This partnership is a dream come true and an opportunity to share the beauty of Black Masking culture with the world,” Williams said, according to reports on the WURD website.
