Philly’s own Amir “Questlove” Thompson will make his feature film directorial debut with a live-action reimagining of The Aristocats. The remake will feature a blend of both live-action and animation. Questlove will be directing and overseeing music for the live-action hybrid adaptation of Disney’s The Aristocats, a story of four Parisian cats who were kidnapped by a butler after discovering they are heirs to a fortune.
Questlove also is executive producing and overseeing music for the film, whose script is by Will Gluck and Keith Bunin. Tarik Trotter, Shawn Gee, and Zarah Zohlman will exec produce on behalf of Two One Five Entertainment.
A founding member of the Philadelphia hip hop band, The Roots, six-time Grammy winner Questlove made by his doc Summer of Soul, about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival in 2021. The pic premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, taking home the Grand Jury Prize and beginning its run of accolades that would culminate at the 2022 Oscars.
