It’s April, which is Jazz Appreciation Month, and plenty is going on around town. I read this post on Valray Productions Facebook page that I want to share with you. She said it was okay…

“In appreciation of April Jazz Appreciations Month, let’s support the local establishment that still wants to keep Jazz alive. On Saturday, April 15, at the New Barbers Hall,1402 W. Oxford Street, Sistahsolo Productions Presents Matinee Jazz & Cocktails featuring Greg Moore & Actual Proof with special guests Alfie Pollite on piano, Richard Tucker on Guitar and hosted by Aqueelah H. Jamal.” “This is a good place where local jazz enthusiasts can enjoy jazz,” Valray explained.

Recently Valray Productions supported Jazz on the Northside, Valray along with her sisters and brothers in song, shared the stage at Circles Hall, 4800 N. Board Street at the Juke Joint. Jazz scatkateer Michael Beckham and Valray lit up the audience.

She stated, “Come out and support Jazz, to keep these musicians working, and continue supporting live entertainment. The platform for live Jazz here in Philly is slim to none. You gotta travel to the suburbs Natalie’s is gone, Relish is gone, Top Shelf is no longer supporting Jazz, The Platinum Grille is gone, WarmDaddy’s is gone, and Calabash Jazz is gone. Come support this great music, ” she stated. It saddened me to hear that Jazz outlets are closing. Please support the arts as we celebrate all month — Jazz.
