It was a night to remember when the best of Philadelphia artists hit the stage to celebrate Valray Productions’ 30th Anniversary Celebration and pay homage to legends, including honoree Philly’s own Norman Connors. From the MC
and Host Valray, the night included performances by some of Philadelphia’s finest artists: Comedian Turae, Nikki Powerhouse, George V. Johnson, Tanqueray Hayward, Sim Streeter, Michal Beckham, Lauren Lark, Mary Cross, Brenda Smith, and honoree Sherry Wilson Bulter, who sang, with Streeter, “Valentine Love.” Streeter brought the house down with Connor’s “You Are My Starship.” Also mesmerizing the audience was Phyliss Hyman’s “Meet Me On The Moon,” performed by Cross. Brenda Smith rolled back time with Roberta Flack’s “Reverend Lee.” Every single artist shined on the stage with their ren- dition of legends we all love.
Val also joined the band as the percussionist–band members included: Jeff Knoetner, pianist; Cedric Napoleon, bassist; Rich Tucker, guitar; and Timothy Hutson, drums.
Highlighting the celebration were special presentations to Norman Connors from City Councilman Curtis Jones; a surprise presentation of the Congressional Proclamation from the House of Representatives to Valray Productions for 30 years of Excellence; and Sherri Wilson Butler, for over 30 years in the music industry and 20 years as an educator of the arts.
The night wrapped up with Meli’sa Morgan bringing down the house with “Fool’s Paradise” and “Do Me, Baby,” accompanied by Philly Divas — Samiyyah Staten, Jessica Ringgold, and Felicia Felder–who sang backup for Meli’sa, showed they have what it takes to keep the crowd jumping.
A celebration to remember! Special thanks go out to Roz Nixon, Co-producer of the show; Cynthia Dillingham, Valray’s Assistant and all the volunteers who helped make the night run smoothly!!!
