On June 25th, Sheriff Rochelle Bilal and the Sheriff’s Office held their inaugural community basketball game and resource event that engages members of law enforcement and members of the Kingsessing Recreation Center.
The day began with the distribution of hundreds of boxes of food to the community. People drove up and picked up boxes filled with fruits, vegetables, and non-perishable foods. We often hear about the need for food in our communities. And, you had to be there to see and understand what people mean when they say there is a “need” for food in our communities: most of the food was gone before noon, and people were still coming.
In the rear of the Kingsessing Center were at least 19 vendors who provided local information and valuable resources.
Guests also enjoyed food and refreshments and a halftime show, which included: poetry readings, Nike Ambassadors, refreshments, and giveaways.
During the Community Basketball Game, the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office went up against the Kingsessing Kings. The Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office was able to pull away with the win.
Sheriff Rochelle Bilal said, “It’s the duty of the Sheriff’s Office to provide a safe space for community members and bring opportunities for us to come together in a violent-free environment. We are grateful for our local and national partners joining us in this exciting family event.”
