PHILADELPHIA, PA, December 23, 2022— Philadelphia-based Milano Di Rouge (MDR) fashion brand CEO/Owner Milan Harris presented five women from various neighborhoods in Philadelphia who have lost children due to gun violence with a day of health and wellness.
The women spent the day at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia, where they received breakfast, hair and makeup makeovers, lunch, group discussions, a visit to a spa, and of course, gifts from MDR.
Several weeks ago, Ms. Harris approached Councilmember Johnson, chairman of City Council’s Special Committee on Gun Violence Prevention, with the idea of giving a select number of women from throughout Philadelphia–who have lost loved ones to gun violence–a special day before the start of Christmas.
As the holidays and end of the year approaches, many people experience the recurrence of grief as they remember happy times with a deceased loved one.
Councilmember Johnson’s office recommended the five women selected to participate. MDR covered all costs of the health and wellness day.
Johnson’s office will continue to work with Ms. Harris to come up with additional ways she and the MDR company can help reduce gun violence in Philadelphia throughout 2023.
Starting out the trunk of her car with just two shirts, a lot of courage, and a massive dream, Ms. Harris, launched MDR as a t-shirt line, which today is a multi-million dollar fashion empire. Ms. Harris is the creator of The Womanaire Club and The Mamanaire Club, two support hubs for women and mamas alike. Through The Womanaire Club, Milan holds a safe space for all women to openly engage, connect, and share their stories with the common purpose of becoming the best women they can be. Through The Mamanaire Club, Milan aims to inspire the mama on a mission to grow. A mom herself to her son, Czar, Milan believes that mothers can be who they want to be even after children enter their lives.
Over the years, Ms. Harris has given back to Philadelphia and the world through philanthropy. Her philanthropic efforts include donating more than $50,000 to single mothers in Philadelphia mothers at the start of the COVID19 Pandemic in 2020. She has funded Thanksgiving, Christmas, and back-to-school drives for Philadelphia children and families.
She has also donated thousands of MDR’s clothes and shoes to Haiti and other third-world countries through the non-profit organization Soles4Soles.
Councilman Johnson, a former Pennsylvania State Representative, represents the 2nd Council District, which includes parts of Center City, South Philadelphia, and Southwest Philadelphia. He is Chairman of the City’s Council’s Special Committee on Gun Violence Prevention.
