Peter Wentz Farmstead Announces Return of their Annual Sheep Shearing Day

Reading Time: 2 minutes
LANSDALE, PA – Join the Peter Wentz Farmstead for the return of their annual Sheep Shearing Day on Saturday, April 23 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Watch our ewes lose their winter coats as our farmers demonstrate 18th-century methods of shearing sheep. Then stop by the pasture to meet our two adorable new lambs!

Follow the steps “from sheep to sweater” as you visit our living historians who will be demonstrating how to card the wool and spin it into thread, how to weave the thread into fabric, and how the fabric is sewn into clothing. Visitors will experience many facets of typical springtime life on a colonial farm. We will have crafters making baskets, bookbinding, rug hooking, and more. Be sure to stop by the Summer Kitchen to watch our cook prepare some delicious dishes!

In addition to colonial craft demonstrations, there will be entertainment for the whole family. There will be two sheep shearing demonstrations at about 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

At noon, Tucker’s Tales Puppet Theatre will perform the thrilling tale of St. George and the Green Dragon. Stick around after the show and you’ll hear the dulcet tones of local music students playing inside the historic house. The first floor of the house will be open for short guided tours throughout the day.

A $2 donation per person is suggested.
