PECO Responds to Severe Damage and Record Flooding from Ida

PECO Storm Update: September 3, 2021 9:00 a.m.PECO continues to respond to the severe damage and record flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida. High winds paired with prolonged, substantial rainfall brought down trees and tree branches and caused extensive damage to electric equipment.As of 8 a.m. on September 3, there are approximately 16,000 customers currently without service, with the most concentrated damage in Montgomery County.Bucks County = 1,300Chester County = 1,200Delaware County = 150Montgomery County = 12,000Philadelphia County = 1,400York County = Fewer than 5Following the aftermath of this severe weather, PECO crews, with the assistance of additional employees and contractors outside of the region, have made significant progress restoring damage in the past 24 hours.We expect to restore 90 percent of those impacted customers by end of day today. We know this will be a multi-day restoration effort and, in some cases, restoration work may continue into the weekend due to the severity of the damage.The significant flooding has also impacted several substations, which are currently being prioritized as these high-voltage facilities will restore a significant amount of customer outages. However, for safety reasons, crews must wait until floodwaters recede prior to making repairs.Approximately 135,000 customers have been affected by this storm. PECO crews, contractors, and support personnel will continue to work around the clock until all damage has been repaired and all service has been restored. Mutual AssistanceWe continue to secure additional assistance from outside the region to support storm restoration efforts. More than 540 mutual assistance personnel have arrived in our region and we expect additional crews to arrive between today and tomorrow.These crew members will continue to work 12- to 16-hour shifts alongside PECO crew members to repair the extensive damage on the electric system.
