PECO Responds to Severe Damage and Record Flooding from Ida

PECO Storm Update: September 2, 2021 4:30 p.m.

PECO continues to respond to the severe damage and record flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida. High winds paired with prolonged, substantial rainfall brought down trees and tree branches and caused extensive damage to electric equipment.As of 4:30 p.m. on September 2, there are 33,700 customers that are currently without service, with the most concentrated damage in Montgomery County.  Following the aftermath of yesterday’s weather, PECO crews, with the assistance of additional employees and contractors outside of the region, continue to work to restore power.As of 4:30 p.m., approximately 33,700 customers are without service.  Bucks County = 3,100Chester County = 3,000Delaware County = ScatteredMontgomery County = 26,400Philadelphia County = 1,100York County = Scattered The significant flooding has also impacted several substations, which are currently being prioritized as these high-voltage facilities will restore a significant amount of customer outages. However, for safety reasons, crews must wait until floodwaters recede prior to making repairs. Estimated Restoration TimelineWe anticipate that we’ll be able to restore most of those customers who are currently without power due to last night’s storm by the end of the day on Friday. In some cases, restoration work may continue into the weekend due to the severity of the damage.PECO crews, contractors, and support personnel will continue to work around the clock until all damage has been repaired and all service has been restored.  Mutual AssistanceWe continue to secure additional assistance from outside the region to support storm restoration efforts.We anticipate approximately 750 additional field employees and contractors to be available to support restoration efforts this afternoon with more on the way.These crew members will continue to work 12- to 16-hour shifts alongside PECO crew members to repair the extensive damage on the electric system.
