Norristown Farm Park Announces March Events

NORRISTOWN, PA – Montgomery County’s Norristown Farm Park has released their upcoming educational and family-friendly events scheduled for March.

Evening Bird Walk
Friday, March 11, 6 p.m.
Join us to explore species that are active in the evening hours. Search for Warblers, Sparrows, and maybe see or hear an American Woodcock. Bring binoculars or borrow ours! All ages; Free

All about Trout
Saturday, March 12, 2 p.m.
Part of the excitement of spring is the opening of trout season! Join park ranger Jake for a primer on trout fishing. Topics covered will include cold water fish habitat, the life cycle of trout, different trout species, and popular angling equipment and techniques. This will be in an indoor space to use a PowerPoint presentation. Ages 6 and up with adult; Free

Morning Bird Walk 
Tuesday, March 15, 8:30 a.m. 
The northern migration of waterfowl begins in March. The park’s wetland areas, creeks, and the pond will be the focus of this morning bird walk. Some uphill walking is required. Bring binoculars or borrow ours! Wear sturdy shoes for hiking. All ages; Free

Full Moon Hike 
Thursday, March 17, 7:45 p.m.
Come experience a hike under the full moon. Learn about the March full moon called the “Sap Moon.” Explore the park after hours led by park ranger Dave. Wear sturdy shoes for hiking. All ages; Free
Spring Wreath 
Saturday, March 19, 10:30 a.m.
Join us to create a beautiful Spring Wreath! We will provide a 10 inch grape vine wreath with various silk and dry flower options. Also ribbon to create a bow! Limited space, due to limited craft supplies.  Ages 11 and up with adult; $15 to cover supply cost

Homeschool: Songbirds 
Wednesday, March 23, 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. 
Spring is here and many of our songbirds are returning from a vacation down south. Come learn about different species of birds, how to identify them, experience their songs and discover their migration paths. Enjoy a bird watching hike, bring binoculars if you have them. If you do not have binoculars, we will have a limited number to borrow. Dress for the weather. Children ages 7-16 with adult; Free

Saturday Morning Bird Walk 
Saturday, March 26, 8:30 a.m. 
Join park staff for a Saturday Morning bird walk. Come observe some amazing birds that are only stopping by. Bring binoculars if you have them. Wear sturdy shoes for hiking. All ages; Free

Nature Explorers: Wilderness Survival
Wednesday, March 30, 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. 
Come learn some tactics that can be used to survive in the wilderness. Discover how to create a shelter and build a stick tower for a fire. Listen to a story and create a craft to take home. Limited space available, Registration required. Please dress for the weather as we will be outdoors. Also if you would like to bring s’mores supplies, you will have the opportunities to cook them at the end of the program! Children ages 3-6 with adult; $3

Beginner Fly tying Series 
Wednesday March 30, April 6, April 13, & April 20, 6 p.m.
Join Don to learn the basics of fly tying. If you are new to Fly tying this is for you! At the end of the series you will keep all the flies you create. All supplies will be provided to complete the flies. Limited tool kits available to borrow or bring your own. This is an indoor event. Children ages 8 and up with adult; $25 fee to cover supplies 

All programs have limited capacity, and registration is required. For meeting location and registration email Rebecca at rblacketter@montcopa.org. Programs may be canceled at any time. You will be notified if you registered. All programs are outdoors, unless otherwise listed, dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Norristown Farm Park is a working farm in continuous use since colonial times. This 690 acre park is home to a wide range of plant and animal species. Within this bucolic setting you will find hiking trails, a cooperative trout nursery, picnic areas, forests, flood plains, fallow and working farm fields, wetlands and two stocked trout streams along with a number of historic structures the oldest of which, dates back to 1764. We offer a variety of public programs year round with topics based on the seasons. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to sunset.
