NAACP Camden County East Youth Council hosts private screening of The Color Purple

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Saturday, December 30, 2023—The NAACP Camden County East Youth Council hosted a private screening of The Color Purple at the AMC Voorhees. This family-friendly event was held to encourage community coordination in Camden County while celebrating the remastering of a classic motion picture.

The Color Purple tells the story of Celie, a South Carolina woman who overcomes the adversities inflicted upon her. The NAACP Camden County East Youth Council and other community coordinators hope this event will unite and uplift the community.

The NAACP Youth Council members sold tickets for the screening and encouraged ticket holders to attend the event timely as seating was limited, and the NAACP hosted one showing. As you can see from the photos, many NAACP Youth Council members and their families, friends, and community members attended the screening. It was a great event, and of course, the movie is all that the reviews said it is, and more!!

Proceeds from the ticket sales will contribute to the initiatives and programs supported by the NAACP Camden County East Youth Council, furthering their commitment to community engagement and positive youth development.

For those who attended, thank you for supporting the NAACP Camden County East Youth Council and joining us to watch the inspirational and uplifting newly imagined version of “The Color Purple.” Our community partners are:
-New Jersey Garden City and South Jersey Alumnae Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
-National Hook-Up of Black Women, Cherry Hill Chapter
-Philadelphia Chapter of the Pierians
-Hiram Lodge Number 5, Lawnside, NJ
