NORRISTOWN, PA – The Montgomery County Planning Commission (MCPC) is hosting “Happy Trails! Planning and Designing Trails for All Users” on Thursday, April 29, from 4:00–5:30 p.m. This free online webinar will highlight the new Montgomery County Trail Access, Diversity, & Awareness Plan and demonstrate how best practices can be applied to any community trail network in the county. Montgomery County has an extensive and very popular trail network. However, the demographics of our trail users do not always reflect the diversity of the communities they pass through and, often, there are physical and cultural barriers preventing local residents from accessing our trail system. In response to this issue and to support the transportation and equity goals established in the county’s comprehensive plan, Montco 2040: A Shared Vision, the county created and adopted a new trail diversity and awareness study. “This innovative plan reflects the county’s broad mission to improve accessibility and equity amongst all our residents. It will go a long way toward providing countywide opportunities to recreate and commute on our trail system,” said Dr. Val Arkoosh, Chair, Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. Join us to explore this informative plan, which aims to promote equity on county trails, broaden the diversity of trail users, and modernize trail designs to address the evolving demographics of our constituents. This event is being provided as part of Planning Smarter Montco 2021, a Montgomery County initiative offering planning education and outreach, and corresponds to the Connected Community theme contained in the county’s comprehensive plan.
