Mayor Frank Moran steps aside as Camden’s top official

CAMDEN, NJ – Mayor Francisco “Frank” Moran announced his resignation in a heartfelt letter which he submitted to the City Clerks’ Office on March 5, 2021. Mayor Moran began his term in January 2018 and will officially leave office effective Friday, April 30, 2021. The vacancy is taking place during the final year of Moran’s four-year term as Mayor. After a 30-year career in public service, Mayor Moran stated in his resignation letter that is was a “privilege to serve as Mayor of Camden.”
Mayor Moran went on to say in the letter, “During my tenure as a public servant, I have been afforded the opportunity to serve the great citizens of Camden City faithfully while maintaining my ethics and morals. I have been surrounded by an exceptional team who all shared one common goal: to see Camden rise to its fullest potential. I look forward to a healthy and restful retirement and all it has to offer, and will forever be grateful for this remarkable experience.”
In accordance with New Jersey Code N.J.S.A. 40A:16-11, the process of filling the Mayor’s vacancy has already begun. As outlined in the statute, Camden City Council President Curtis Jenkins will now take on the role of Acting Mayor as of Saturday, May 1, 2021. As the local governing body, City Council is tasked with appointing a permanent successor to fill the vacant term created by Mayor Moran’s resignation.
“I commend Mayor Frank Moran for his leadership, for serving as our top elected official and for more than three decades of public service to the residents of our City,” said Camden City Council President and Acting Mayor Curtis Jenkins. “I consider Frank a brother and he will truly be missed. I can assure resident that municipal government and essential services will continue without interruption during this transition period. I am honored to step in on a temporary basis during this critical time in Camden’s history. Similar to Mayor Moran, I am a longtime resident and I remain committed to Camden, our stakeholders and our residents.”
