Lord, We Look To You For Protection Against The Storms Of Life And Say With Assurance That You Will Bring Us Through. Amen.
It’s winter, which is the season for snow storms. Now, I’ve come to realize that most of us hope that when we have weathered one storm, we won’t have to worry about facing any more storms. But, in fact, the reverse is true; storms will keep coming into our lives. We not only have rain, hail, sleet, and snow storms. We also have financial, health, emotional, relationship, and spiritual storms. We are either in a storm, coming out of a storm, or going into a storm. Yes, the storms keep coming.
Now, storms keep coming because GOD has lessons for us to learn. My grandfather, Ernest Booker T. Carroway, had something to say about storms. He was a very spiritual man and a deacon at Providence Baptist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina, where Rev Dr. Howard Allen Chubbs was the pastor. You see, when the skies would darken, and the thunder would roll, while the lightning would zigzag across the way and the rain would hit hard on the rooftop, Pop Pop Carraway would say, “Boy sit down and be quiet. That’s GOD talking!” I believe Pop Pop was right. When the storms of life come upon us, GOD is talking. He is saying, “Be still and know that I am GOD!” You may feel that you have some storms in your life today, but there are some folks who didn’t just get here yesterday, and they know what it means to say, “I’ve been in the storm too long!” Too many of us have given up on ourselves, others, the church, and GOD because of the storm. There are some old sailors, some old saints, some old heads who will tell you–when the storm rages, don’t give up and just ask GOD to stand by you. Don’t give up on GOD. He will carry you through the storm. Stay on the boat and realize that your survival is in your anchor.
“Though the storms of life keep raging in my life. And sometimes it’s hard to tell the night from the day. Still, the hope that lies within gives me assurance as I keep my eyes upon the distant storm. I realize that sometimes in this life we’re gonna be tossed by the wind and the waves, but in the arms of GOD, I have an anchor that keeps me steadfast and unmovable in spite of the tide. But if the storms don’t cease and if the winds keep on blowing, my soul’s been anchored in the LORD!”
God says you are going to make it through the storm. Now, who are you going to believe?
