Life Turning Point of Philadelphia, a safe haven for homeless women and their children

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Philadelphia, PA – One of the worst conditions for a mother is to become homeless with children. The White House reports that there are an estimated 552,830 homeless people in America.

In Philadelphia, city sources report (at any given time) that more than 3,100 people are experiencing homelessness. This vulnerable population often has no safety net for support. But there are organizations like Life Turning Point of Philadelphia fighting the good fight to provide shelter, supportive services, and spiritual enrichment for homeless women and their children.

During the height of the COVID pandemic, Life Turning Point of Philadelphia emerged. According to its website, “Life Turning Point of Philadelphia was established in 2019; as a means to serve homeless women and children in Philadelphia. The program of Life Turning Point of Philadelphia is unique as it will provide a comprehensive, Bible-based, life-skills training program for homeless women and children in the City of Philadelphia.” Its Founder and Executive Director is Rita Whitaker, a beautiful demure saint with a deeply compassionate heart dedicated to serving homeless women and children. Whitaker is unapologetic about her Christian service; her vocation isn’t driven by an industrial-corporate filter but from a Christ-centered worldview.

Homeless mothers and their children do not have to be Christians to be served by Life Turning Point of Philadelphia–but they do have to be receptive to receiving the Christ-centered services and information provided by the organization. The vision of the organization is to Transform families to impact the world.

Life Turning Point of Philadelphia’s objectives for the homeless mothers they serve include:

· Self-reflection

· New direction

· Responsibility/Accountability

· Hope for change

· Willingness to do the work

· Self-sufficiency
